1. Change your foreground color
to the color you'd like to make your bear. I'm using #E6B64E.
2. Make sure your bear layer is
active
and
Select All,
then click Select from Object. You should now have the shape of your bear
selected and you should see the "marching ants" around
your selection.
3. Add a new raster layer to
your image and name it "bear color".
4. Flood fill your selected
area with your bear color:

(image shown at actual size)
Save
5. Add a new raster layer and
name it "shadows".
6. Make your bear layer active
and expand the layer so you can see all the different parts of your
bear.
7. Click on your "left
foot" object and holding your shift key click on your
"left leg" object, then click
Select from Object.
8. Click Invert Selection.
9. Make your "shadow"
layer active and click
Drop Shadow and use the following settings:

10. Repeat your drop shadow,
changing the vertical and horizontal to -5.
Save
11. Repeat steps 7-10 for your left arm and
right arm, using the same drop shadow settings.
12. Repeat steps 7-10 for your left ear and
right ear, using the following drop shadow settings:

13. Make your bear layer active
and click on your "body" object, then click
Select from Object.
14. Make your
"shadow" layer active and click
Cut (or delete).
15. Click Invert Selection.
16. Click
Drop Shadow and use the following settings:

17. Repeat your drop shadow,
changing the vertical and horizontal to -10.

18. Make your bear layer active
and click on your "head" object, then click
Select from Object.
19. Make your
"shadow" layer active and click
Cut (or delete).
20. Click Invert Selection.
21. Click
Drop Shadow and use the same settings you used for the
body.
22. Apply a
Drop Shadow again, changing the Horizontal and Vertical to -10.
Save
23. Make your bear layer active
and click on your "right foot" object, then click
Select from Object.
24. Make your
"shadow" layer active and click
Cut (or delete).
25. Click Invert Selection.
26. Click
Drop Shadow and use the following settings:

27. Repeat your drop shadow,
