It is only a tiny rosebud
    A flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.

    The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I.
GOD opens this flower so sweetly,
Then, in my hands, they die.

If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
    The flower of God's design,
Then how can I have the wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?

So, I'll trust in Him for leading
    Each moment of my day.
I will look to Him for His guidance
Each step of the Pilgrim's way.

The pathway that lies before me
    Only my Heavenly Father knows.
I'll trust him to unfold the moments,
Just as He unfolds the rose.

Part 2 - creating our animation

Before we begin creating our animation:

Make sure you have saved your image as a psp file ("rose.psp") with the following options:

This will save your image with all your layers intact.

Launch Animation Shop, click on File/Jasc Software Products/Launch Animation Shop:

Animation Shop will open in a new window.

Creating our animation:

1. Click on the Animation Wizard icon to start the Animation Wizard:

  1. Same size as the first image
  2. Transparent
  3. Upper left corner of the frame
  4. With the canvas color
  5. Yes, play the animation indefinitely
  6. Any number - we'll be changing it later
  7. Add image and find your "rose.psp" file, click open
  8. Finish

When you click on "Finish" your animation will appear with each frame (layer) displayed:

You will have a total of 11 frames in all - one frame for each layer of your original image.

The properties for each frame are shown below the frame:

F:1 indicates that this is Frame 1
D:10 indicates the length of time this frame will be displayed (in 1/100th of as second)

The active frame is highlighted. In the screenshot above, Frame 1 is the active frame.

We want to change the display time for each frame.  Right click on each frame and choose Frame Properties to open the Frame Properties box:

Change the display time for your frames as follows:

FRAME

DISPLAY TIME

1 30
2 10
3 9
4 8
5 8
6 7
7 6
8 5
9 4
10 2
11 100

Once you have all your display times changed, click on the View Animation icon to view your animation.

If you're happy with your animation, save your file (File/Save As.. or F12):

1. Browse to the folder on your hard drive where you wish to save your file.

2. Chose a name for your animation and the Save as type box should default to CompuServe Graphics Interchange (*.gif).

3. Click Save.

4. I always move my slider to the top (Better Image Quality) though you may choose to adjust your slider for a smaller file size.

5. Click Next three times.

6. Click Finish.

Congratulations - you have just created an animated blooming rose!

Would you like a smaller rose? It's very easy to resize your animation.

1. Click on Edit/Select All to activate all your frames.

2. Click on Animation/Resize Animation.

3. Enter the numbers for the reduction you'd like.  I chose to reduce mine by 50%, as shown in the following screen shot:

Once you have all your animation resized, click on the View Animation icon to view your animation.

If you're happy with your animation, save your file as instructed above, choosing a new name for the smaller animation.

Here's my smaller rose:

I hope you enjoyed creating your "Blooming Rose" as much as I have enjoyed writing the tutorial.
