1. Make your book
image active. Right click on the "closed book" layer in your layer palette and
choose View/Current Only.
2. Using your
magic wand click inside the "cover" of your book.
3. Add a new
raster layer and name it "cover graphic". Leave your selected area active.
4. Click on your
graphic image and copy it (Ctrl +C).
TIP: When
pasting an image into a selection, you may find your image gets distorted if the
width to height ratio changes. Here's a trick I used to prevent the image from
distorting when creating my book...
1. fill your
selected area with any color
2. Ctrl+X (cut)
3. Ctrl+V (paste as a new image)
You now have a
new canvas the exact size you need for your graphic...in this case 138 pixels
wide and 195 pixels high. Use this canvas to create/adjust your graphic to the
correct size.
5. Make your
"book" image active and paste your graphic into selection (Shift + Ctrl + L).
Deselect (Ctrl +D). This is going to be your book cover, and should look like
this:
Click for larger image
(I lowered the opacity of the "closed book" layer for this screenshot)
6. Right click on
your "cover graphic" layer and duplicate this layer twice.
7. Turn off the
visibility for the two layers you just created. (The only layers visible should
be "closed book" and "cover graphic".)
8. Right click on
the "closed book" layer and choose Merge/Merge Visible. Rename this layer
"closed book". Deselect.
Save
9. Right click on
your "flip1" layer and choose View/Current Only.
10. Click on one
of the "Copy of cover graphic" layers make it visible and, if necessary, drag it
down so it is just below your "flip1" layer in your Layer Palette. (Both layers
should be visible, and the "Copy of cover graphic" should be your active layer.)
11. Click on your
deformation tool. You should see a box around your graphic with eight
small squares:

12. We will be
using the three squares that I have circled in yellow. Move your cursor
over the middle square and you will see it change to a double sided arrow.
Hold down your left mouse button and drag the right side of your graphic until
it is inside the border:

13.
While holding down your shift key move your cursor over the top square until
your cursor changes. Left click and drag it up to the corner of your border.
Do the same with the bottom corner, then click on apply in your tool palette
window. If your image does not completely fill the "cover", make adjustments
with your deformation tool, dragging to the edge as needed. You should end
up with this:

14. Merge the two
visible layers and rename your new layer "cover flip1".
Save
15. Repeat from
step 9, using the "flip 2" layer:

Save
16. Add a
new layer and drag it below your "flip3" layer.
17. Right
click on "flip3" layer and choose View/Current Only.
18. Using
your magic wand click inside this image. Click on the new layer you just
added to make it active and turn on the visibility for this layer.
Click on Selections/Modify/Expand and enter 1. This will assure that you
have the whole "page" selected.
19. Flood
fill this area with the color of your choice. Deselect (Ctrl +D).
This will be the inside of your cover. You may choose to decorate this
with an image, but for this tutorial we will leave it as a plain color.
20. Merge
these two layers and rename "cover flip3".
Save
21. Repeat
steps 15 through 19 for your "flip4" layer, renaming the merged layer
"cover flip4".
Here is what
your two flips should look like:
