*** CREATING SELECTIONS FROM OUR SHAPES ***

You may be perfectly happy with your lion shape as it is.
In these next sections we will be changing the appearance
and creating a picture tube from our image.
You can stop now...but I hope you continue and gain
more knowledge from the following sections of the tutorial.

1. We will be making selections from our various shapes and saving them to the alpha channel.  Your alpha channel will remain intact as long as you save your image as a psp file

From the Jasc site: "The Alpha Channel is a grayscale channel for storing selections and masks that can be reloaded into an image."

There are probably as many ways to accomplish these steps as there are tutorial writers, but this is the method I chose for this tutorial.

2.  Make sure your Layer Palette is expanded so that you can access all your different shapes.

3. Click on your "tail" object to make it active.

4. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "tail" for the name of your selection:

5. Click on your "tail end" object to make it active.

6. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "tail end" for the name of your selection.

  Save

7. Click on your "left leg" object and while holding down your shift key, click on your "right leg" and "body" objects in the layer palette.

8. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "body and legs" for the name of your selection.

9. Click on your "Heart 1" object.

10. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "heart" for the name of your selection.

11. Click on your "left arm" object and while holding down your shift key, click on your "right arm" object in the layer palette.

12. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "arms" for the name of your selection.

  Save

13. Click on your "mane" object.

14. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "mane" for the name of your selection.

15. Click on your "tongue" object.

16. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "tongue" for the name of your selection.

17. In the "face" group we want to click on these objects while holding down the shift key: "face", "right cheek", "left cheek", "right ear", and "left ear".

18. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "face" for the name of your selection.

  Save

19. Next in the "face" group we want to click on the "Left inner ear" and "left inner ear" while holding down the shift key.

20. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "inner ears" for the name of your selection.

21. Click on your "nose" object.

22. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "nose" for the name of your selection.

23. Click on your "face details" GROUP.

24. Click on Select from Object; then Alpha Save Selection. In the first box click OK, in the second box type in "face details" for the name of your selection.

25. You may repeat this process for your text; however it will be just as easy to add new text later.

  Save

As long as you save your image as a .psp file in PSP 7 compatible mode your Alpha Channel will remain intact with all your selections available whenever you open your image in Paint Shop Pro 7.

  Save
