Well, all it took was completing my first
"pixel painting" tutorial and I was hooked.

This tutorial written by Cathy on December 26, 2003.
Written using Paint Shop Pro Version 8.1, but should
work fine with earlier versions.

 

 

*** COLORING OUR BUNNY ***

1. Change your foreground color to white.

2. Using your Magic Wand click inside the inner ear area.

3. Flood fill with your foreground color.

4. Change your foreground color to #E989AB.

5. Float your selection (Selections/Float).

6. Use your Airbrush Tool, with the following settings:

7. Click one time inside your inner ear.

8. Apply a Motion Blur (Adjust/Blur/Motion Blur) with the following settings:

Angle: 45
Strength: 8

9. Select none. (Selections/Select None):

  Save

10. Change your foreground color to #D3B199.

11. Using your Magic Wand click inside your bunny's face.

12. Flood fill with your foreground color.

13. Add Noise (Adjust/Add-Remove Noise/Add Noise):

Guassian: checked
Noise: 15%
Monochrome: checked
 

14. Make your "details" layer active.

15. Change your foreground color to #E2D6D7.

16. Use your Airbrush Tool, with the following settings:

17. Paint color on your bunny's face as shown below:

18. Add Noise (same settings as before).

19. Apply a Guassian Blur (Adjust/Blur/Guassian Blur) with a Radius of 0.50.

20. Select none. (Selections/Select None)

  Save

21. Make your "pixels" layer active.

22. Change your foreground color to #D3B199.

23. Using your Magic Wand AND holding your Shift key, click inside your bunny's arms and the small portion of ear hanging behind his back.

24. Flood fill with your foreground color.

25. Add Noise (same settings as before).

26. Select none. (Selections/Select None):

  Save

27. Using your Magic Wand AND holding your Shift key, click inside your bunny's main body area and the small leg area.

28. Flood fill with your foreground color.

29. Add Noise (same settings as before).

30. Make your "details" layer active.

31. Change your foreground color to #E2D6D7.

32. Click on your Airbrush Tool; change the size to 15 and Hardness to 35.

33. Paint some detail as shown below by clicking on your image (rather than holding down your mouse button):

34. Add Noise (same settings as before).

35. Apply a Guassian Blur (Adjust/Blur/Guassian Blur) with a Radius of 0.50.

36. Select none (Selections/Select None):


 

37. Make your "pixels" layer active.

38. Change your foreground color to #AB0538.

39. Using your Magic Wand click inside the girl's mouth.

40. Select none (Selections/Select None).

  Save

41. Flood fill with your foreground color.

42. Change your foreground color to black.

43. Using your Magic Wand AND holding your Shift key, click inside both of your bunny's eyes.

44. Flood fill with your foreground color.

45. Apply an Inner Bevel with the following settings:

46. Select none (Selections/Select None).

  Save

47. Using your Magic Wand click inside the bunny's nose.

48. Flood fill with your foreground color.

49. Apply an Inner Bevel, changing the Elevation to 50.

50. Select none (Selections/Select None).

  Save

 

*** FINISHING UP ***

*** One last step and we're done. ***

1. Add a new raster layer and name it "color".

2. Move this layer below your "pixels" lay.

3. Make your "pixels" layer active.

4. Using your Magic Wand, AND holding your shift key, click on the three blank portions of your canvas. (Shown below in blue):

5. Invert your selection (Selections/Invert).

6. Make your "color" layer active.

7. Change your foreground color to #D1795B.

8. Flood fill your selected area with your foreground color.

9. Select none (Selections/Select None).

10. Merge your visible layers.

That's it...you're done!

You can save as a jpg, export as a picture tube, or both.

  Save
